I’m back, lovelies, and just in time to catch the end of summer.  August was a month of serious transition, which unfortunately didn’t allow me any time or energy to devote to my blog.  But I’m back in full force and excited to look at life in a new light, which is why I thought a white monochromatic ensemble would be the perfect reentry blog post.  All white reminds me of a clean canvas, fresh and ready for the first few swipes of paint.  This is also the last time I could wear white jeans for a while (does everyone follow that Labor Day rule?!)

I have joined the graphic tee craze and picked up this great black and white one from a recent Robyn and Royksopp concert (have you heard their latest single, “Do It Again“? I am obsessed) .  The muted white shirt is a complete contrast to the colorful lights, over-the-top outfits, and loud trance-like beats during Robyn’s show, but it definitely fits into my current “back to basics” style.  I hope to have more to share on that front in September.  It’s full steam ahead into fall, and I welcome all the changes that come with it.

I hope everyone had a lovely carefree summer solstice!  T was in Minnesota photographing artists at the Rock the Garden music festival for The Current [check out his work on The Current’s Instagram!], so I had a rare weekend to myself.  I always think that I will have a lot of “down time” when T is out of town, but somehow it never works out that way.  Between a “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” themed gala, two birthday parties, a bikram yoga class, and a shopping date with my mom, I had a full weekend!  On Saturday night, a friend and I went for a stroll mid-birthday party to pick up more limes from the neighborhood Trader Joe’s for caipirinhas [an amazing Brazilian cocktail that you should try immediately if you haven’t already].  I haven’t been very good at this lately, but I did remember to pause to appreciate the gorgeous evening, walking around town, and the time spent with friends that I don’t get to see too often.  It never ceases to amaze me how fast time flies, especially in the summer.  Since I don’t think things are slowing down any time soon post-solstice, I need to be sure to have some relaxing “me time” this summer.  A day in the sun reading a book would be fantastic.  Pool day, anyone?

Recently I’ve seen two of my favorite things, faux fur and leather, being paired together.  D.C. has been dull, grey, and misty in the last couple of weeks, so extra layers this time of year is a plus!  I’ve also been purposefully mixing in bright colors lately with my standard black and grey wardrobe.  It’s so easy to dress drably in this damp, cold, and depressing weather, so keep a few brights from your summer/fall wardrobe handy!  These layers were perfect for a walk around downtown Annapolis – the sun never made an appearance, but I was plenty warm.  Unfortunately, I don’t think the weather is getting any warmer, but thankfully there are plenty of cozy ways to help me cope.
